What is BitcoinVN
BitcoinVN is a centralized cryptocurrency exchange operated by CTY TNHH BVN STAR, founded in late 2013 by a Vietnamese-German team. As of 2026-05-30, it remains founder-operated and supports instant swaps across 103 digital assets. The platform functions as both a crypto-to-crypto swap service and a fiat on-ramp/off-ramp for Vietnamese Dong (VND), with additional services including Bitcoin ATMs in Ho Chi Minh City, over-the-counter trading, and Lightning Network infrastructure.
The core swap product requires no sign-up for most trading pairs. Users select a deposit asset and settlement asset, provide a receiving address, and complete the exchange. BitcoinVN offers two order types: fixed-rate orders where the exchange rate is frozen for a specified timeframe once amounts are entered, and variable-rate orders where the rate is determined upon deposit receipt.
How no-KYC is it?
BitcoinVN occupies a middle ground on the KYC spectrum. The platform explicitly markets "No account needed for most pairs" and enables swaps without registration. However, the KYC/AML Policy makes clear that compliance procedures are implemented across services contingent on user account classification and risk flags.
An automated risk prevention system monitors transactions. If a swap is flagged as suspicious, the exchange is paused and the compliance team conducts an individual review that "can include a request for identity verification." The specific risk criteria are undisclosed to prevent exploitation. This creates a "Rare KYC" or Soft KYC environment where most straightforward transactions complete without identity verification, but users face potential KYC requests without predictable thresholds.
Citizens and residents of the United States, Iran, Cuba, and North Korea are prohibited from using the service.
Privacy & security
BitcoinVN's Privacy Policy discloses collection of email addresses, full names, nationalities, birthdates, government-issued IDs, proof of residence, bank account details, transaction data including destination addresses, IP addresses, and device information. Google OAuth registration pulls email and full name from Google. This data collection framework is extensive when triggered, though much of it applies only to registered accounts or KYC cases.
The platform emphasizes its compliance posture rather than privacy maximization, stating it "strictly complies with all prevailing rules and regulations." No Tor or .onion access is mentioned. The 2019 addition of an angel investor who was "the first Vietnamese contributor to the Bitcoin protocol" suggests technical credibility, though this does not directly impact user privacy.
Payments, fees & limits
BitcoinVN supports an exceptionally broad asset selection: 103 cryptocurrencies and stablecoins across multiple networks including Bitcoin, Monero, Ethereum, Tron, Binance Smart Chain, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Solana, Avalanche, and numerous others. Fiat access points include VND bank transfers, Paysend, Wise, and cash deposits in Saigon and Da Nang.
The pricing page displays real-time VND-denominated rates with percentage changes, though explicit fee schedules are not detailed in the crawled content. Network fees are excluded from displayed prices per the prices page disclaimer. The platform also operates liquidity pools where users can earn from swaps conducted with specific assets.
User experience & support
The interface supports 12 languages including English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, German, French, Russian, Spanish, and Portuguese. Theme options include light, dark, and system default. Account features exist alongside the no-account swap flow, suggesting a tiered experience where registration unlocks additional functionality.
Third-party signals are mixed but generally positive. Trustpilot hosts 203 reviews. BestChange lists 14 reviews over 2 years with a $950,358 reserve. RatingFacts shows 83 customer ratings averaging 4.23/5 stars. The platform maintains active GitHub presence and publishes regular product updates and news content.
Notable operational update: VBTC, a related or predecessor service, is scheduled for full shutdown by end-2026 per a BitcoinVN insights article.
Who it's for
BitcoinVN suits users seeking VND-denominated crypto access in Vietnam, privacy-conscious traders comfortable with occasional KYC friction, and those needing cash on/off-ramps via ATM or in-person deposit. The 103-asset selection and multi-network stablecoin support appeal to users with diverse portfolio needs. It is less suitable for users requiring guaranteed no-KYC completion, those in sanctioned jurisdictions, or individuals prioritizing minimal data collection guarantees.
KYC & privacy
KYC only above certain thresholds.
BitcoinVN implements a risk-based KYC approach where most swaps complete without verification, but an undisclosed automated system flags suspicious transactions for manual review and potential identity demands. The privacy policy explicitly reserves collection of government IDs, proof of residence, full transaction data including destination addresses, and IP addresses, creating significant exposure if KYC is triggered or an account is registered.

Verdict
BitcoinVN fits privacy-tolerant users needing Vietnamese fiat access and broad asset selection, but falls short of guaranteed no-KYC status due to its automated compliance triggers. For absolute anonymity, dedicated no-KYC DEX or P2P alternatives carry lower identity exposure risk.

Clean swaps for xmr to vnd, no account needed for small amounts. Just watch out if you're moving big size, the compliance bot might flag you.

Been using since 2022 for btc lightning topups. Never had kyc triggered, rates are fair, and the saigon cash option is clutch.
privacyfirst
The no-sign-up marketing is misleading. They collect ip and can demand full kyc mid-swap. Fine for convenience, not for real privacy.

103 assets is impressive and the btm network in hcmc is genuinely useful. Wish the kyc thresholds were transparent though.
sat_stacker
Swap got frozen for 'review' and they wanted passport plus utility bill. Took 4 days to get my usdt back. Never again.

Oldest running exchange in vietnam, original founders still there. That counts for something in this space. Just know what you're signing up for.
